Fund for Respect Program

The Fund for Respect was founded by Girls Helping Girls to address the growing problem of gender-based violence and human trafficking across the world. If we examine the cardinal scourges of the human populationpoverty, hunger, HIV/AIDS, violence and exploitationthe victims from Nairobi, Kenya to New York City look uncannily similar: women and girls.

We believe that this is the case because of a conscious and unconscious lack of respect for women and girls. Therefore, the Fund for Respect works to sustain programs across the world that empowers the most vulnerable girls, the victims of sexual assaults, trafficking, and coerced prostitution, to become leaders, respected and respectable educated citizens of an enlightened society.

If you participate in the Fund-for-Respect program, you are given the unique opportunity to create social change projects that raise funds expressly for the purpose of educating and empowering victimized girls and women, and upon a successful project, you are asked to apply to become a Respect Advocate (RA) for Sisters 4 Peace. An RA makes presentations to schools, youth groups, and communities about nurturing self-confidence, promoting human rights, and fostering global respect.

The former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, named the empowerment of women the most effective tool for world development and invoked the international community to promote gender equality. Who better to seize this challenge than you, the girls? Get started today!
